The prosecution initiates proceedings against the employees of the Peqin

The Elbasan Prosecutor's Office has initiated criminal proceedings against several employees of the Peqin prison, suspected of abuse of police authority.

The proceedings against the employees came after it was suspected that they were involved in an election campaign in support of a candidate.

Prosecutor's Office Announcement

The Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Elbasan, primarily registered criminal proceedings no. 457/2025, for the criminal offense of "Abuse of police authority", provided for by Article 332/ai of the Criminal Code.

The registration was carried out after receiving information from open sources on the internet about a public denunciation on social networks by a representative of a political entity, regarding the possible involvement of several employees of the Peqin Penitentiary Institution in the election campaign in support of a candidate for deputy in the elections of May 11, 2025 and based on order no. 25, dated 28.03.2025 of the Head of the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction Elbasan "On the organization of the reinforced readiness service for the election period from 01.04.2025 to 31.05.2025", appreciating the special importance of free and democratic elections, within the framework of the proactive approach of the prosecution for identifying cases of criminal offenses in the field of elections.

In order to conduct a complete and comprehensive investigation, a special investigative group was established, consisting of the prosecutor of the case and three judicial police officers at the prosecutor's office, who are carrying out the first urgent verifications and investigative actions, such as questioning persons with knowledge of the criminal offense, reviewing video footage, seizing material evidence (mobile phones, DVRs), etc.

The Prosecution Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Elbasan remains committed to the effective investigation of criminal offenses in the field of elections, inviting every individual or political entity to forward any information on criminal facts in a timely manner.

 

This proceeding comes after the statement made yesterday by the Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka, who said that Suel Çela has turned the Peqin prison into an election headquarters for one of the SP candidates.

In the premises of police officer Çim Delia (number 5 on the list), these uniformed police officers held a meeting to get involved in the campaign. The meeting date was May 2 or 3, at 10 am. Meanwhile, on April 19 in Gjocaj, Peqin, police officers from the Peqin prison were involved. One of them was police officer Shefit Dranga. The one from Elbasan was also at the meeting ," Noka wrote yesterday./ CNA
