Protests start in front of Tirana City Hall/ Citizens determined to remove

Protests start in front of Tirana City Hall, where citizens are demanding the resignation of Mayor Erion Veliaj. 

Holding placards against Veliaj, the citizens say that the mayor is a thief and that justice must act. 

"The justice system must act in this institution and against Erion Veliaj. Veliaj and Romina Kuken do not call the meeting of the Municipal Council", said Besart Xhaferri.

Today, the 23rd protest is taking place in front of the Municipality of Tirana.

The protests in front of this municipality are taking place because of the scandals that happened in this institution, such as the incinerator affair and the "5D" file, where a number of directors were arrested after SPAK investigations. The citizens insistently demand that Veliaj be brought to justice.

Even Veliaj himself was questioned by SPAK about the incinerator affair, while the court issued other security measures a few weeks ago. 

Meanwhile, the investigations about the incinerators continue, the first group has gone to SPAK, there are two more groups. Initially, they were accused of corruption, but now the accused of the structured criminal group for an affair of around 130 million euros, for an incinerator that does not exist, weighs on the persons involved.

Tensions and clashes with the police have not been absent in recent protests, as protesters have tried to enter the town hall building./CNA
