The Ministry of Defense has provided details on the situation in the country due to bad weather, heavy snowfall that has covered a large part of the counties in the Southeast and Northeast.
According to reports from the structures of the Civil Defense system at the National Operational Center for Civil Emergencies, the situation up to these moments is presented as follows:
Road axes
- In the district of Dibra, the "Arbri" road is impassable in Qafë Murriz, as there is heavy snowfall. Contracting firms are working to open this axis.
- In Dibër municipality, several administrative centers with main axes such as; Lure, Selishte, Luzni, Kala e Doda and Zall Dardhë.
- In the municipality of Bulqiza, the administrative units Ostren, Trebisht are blocked.
- In the municipality of Klos, the secondary roads of the villages connected to the administrative centers of Suç, Gurë and Xibër are blocked.
- In the municipality of Mat, several village roads connected to the administrative centers of Macukull, Lis, Derjan and Komsi are blocked.
- The Peshkopi-Ulëz road axis, in the place called Qafë Ulëz, has been blocked due to the presence of snow, ice and vehicles moving without winter tires. Today, traffic is operating normally.
- The rural roads connecting the municipality of Fushë-Arrëz with the administrative unit of Iballe and its villages are blocked.
- On the road axis Elbasan-Qafë Thane, in the place called "Murrashi bends: there was presence of inerts on the road. There was snowfall in Qafë Thane, which made it difficult for heavy vehicles to move. During the night and in the morning hours of today, work is continuing on cleaning and salting the road on the axis Qafë Thane - Pogradec. Driving is done with winter tires.
- On the Tirana-Elbasan road axis at the exit of the tunnel, there were traffic problems as the terrain was very wet and frosty. The circulation was carried out in one direction only. During the night and today, salt was distributed and traffic is done with winter tires.
- In Krujë municipality, the road axis Cudhi Kamp-Qafeshtame is blocked by snowfall.
- On the Vuno - Himarë road axis, in the place called Viša bridge, a rock mass has fallen. The road is passable in one direction and work is underway to open the other side.
- The road to Shëngjergj, the municipality of Tirana is difficult to pass due to the amount of snowfall.
- In Lanabregas, as a result of the blockage of the collector, there was a presence of water, risking the flooding of an apartment.
- In the segment Fresku - Trau Dajt, at km 5 there was a landslide, blocking one of the lanes. Work is underway to clear the road.
- In the municipality of Vlora, the situation is calm. There is no water in the city.
Snowplows are working today to keep traffic routes open and clear roads blocked by snow.
OSSHE teams are working to restore electricity as soon as possible in some remote areas.
Rivers and reservoirs
From the reports of the structures of the civil defense system at the local level, all the rivers and reservoirs are within their normal quotas and do not pose any danger, except that in the village of Murqinë, Bubq administrative unit, Krujë municipality, where the Ishëm river has overflowed its banks flooding an area of ??20 Ha of agricultural land.
A vehicle with 3 people was blocked by snow in Qafa e Murrizi (Rruga e Arbri). Today, in the early hours of the morning, a "Bulldozer" type vehicle and an ambulance were dispatched. Emergency teams are trying to help trapped citizens.

The weather is forecast to alternate between medium and heavy clouds, however there will be occasional short-term intervals of clearing mainly along the Western Lowlands. Rainfall of low intensity in most of the territory, and locally isolated short-term thunderstorms until midday. After noon, the intensity of the rain gradually decreases. In the northeast-east-south mountain reliefs at heights above 400-600 meters, snowfall with low to medium intensity. In isolated, short-term periods in the Alps and high mountain reliefs, snowfall is predicted in the form of snowstorms. Dense fog/haze due to snowfall and rain. Heavy frosts along the road axes, mainly in mountainous reliefs.
The wind will blow in the Northeast-East direction with an average speed of 4-14 m/s. Along the coastline and valley areas, the wind at a speed of 16-26 m/s.
Extreme temperatures are expected to fluctuate:
In mountainous countries: minimum temperatures will drop to -6°C, while maximum temperatures will rise to -2°C.
In low countries: minimum temperatures will drop to -2°C, while maximum temperatures will rise to 7°C.
On the coast: minimum temperatures will drop to 4°C, while maximum temperatures will rise to 7°C.
The National Civil Protection Agency is closely following the situation in the north and Vlora and is in constant communication with all structures of the Civil Protection system for any emergency situation that may arise as a result of atmospheric conditions.
