Known as the 'grandfather of fairy tales'/ Actor Zija Grapshi passes

Actor Zija Grapshi has passed away at the age of 94.

Grapshi, one of the well-known names of the stage and cinematography, was also known as the 'grandfather of fairy tales' for his interpretations for children. 

Grapshi was born in Gjirokastra on March 19, 1931. He graduated from the "Jordan Misja" artistic high school in 1952.

Initially, he was active in the philodrama group at "Radio Tirana" since 1949, then he played roles in comedy genres, especially at the State Variety Theater, several roles at the People's Theater, but he became best known as an actor at the Tirana Puppet Theater, where he worked the longest, over 40 years, from 1951. He was a lecturer at the Higher Institute of Arts for several years, from 1967.

In the over 160 numerous Puppet Theater performances in which he participated, he generally played leading roles, where he became beloved by children with the roles of Švejk (1957), Ivan the Great (1959), especially with the figure of Santa Claus in the homonymous part of Violetta Congo (1987). /CNA
