The Albanian Railways (HSH) announced these days that the tender for the stations to be built along the new line between Tirana and Durrës will be opened in March.

The announcement about this procedure was published on the website of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which is one of the financial institutions supporting this project. Specifically, according to the announcement made by HSH, operators are being sought to carry out the works and consultancy according to the contracts that will be published in the future.

"The above client (in this case HSH) intends to use part of the loan/guarantee administered by the EBRD towards the cost of the specified project.

Additional information on financing: EBRD: 49.569 million euros, EU and EBIF 40.7 million euros, the Albanian government 16.1 million euros, the Italian Initiative for Central Europe 0.5 million euros and the special fund of EBRD shareholders 0.4 million euros.

Project information, description: The project has a total estimated cost of 90.3 million euros and will require the procurement of the following goods, works and services:

-Works for the rehabilitation of the Tirana-Durrës railway line and the construction of a new railway connection with the International Airport of Tirana "Mother Teresa; – Consulting Services for the Supervision of Works; – Consulting services for track access fees; - Work contract for the construction of Railway Stations along the Tirana-Durra Railway. (It is estimated that it will be published at the beginning of March 2024) The estimated total value of the project is EUR 85.79 million" is stated in the publication made on the EBRD website.

Works on the construction of the Tirana-Durres railway began in November 2021, when the relocation of the old tracks also began. The company that is implementing this project is INC spa, which was declared the winner in 2020, with an offer of 69.7 million euros.

The reconstructed Tirana-Durres line will pass over the old line, while the Tirana-Rina part will be added, a completely new railway line. As for the stations from the Albanian Railway, it has been confirmed earlier that the existing stations will continue to remain in the same locations, while the new stations will be on the new axis from Domje to Rinas Airport.

"The stations are as follows: Durrës - Shkozet - Sukth - Vorë - Kashar (total reconstruction of existing stations), Epoka University/Laknas, Tirana Airport and Tirana Public Transport Terminal (completely new) and the area near Hygeia Hospital is the station the last of the project in progress.
