Journalist Blendi Fevziu has made a strong reaction to the high prices in the south of Albania.
It asks the government to set a ceiling price for beach tents.
Fevziu, through a video message, states that public beaches are rented for 5 - 10 euros per square meter per year, while businesses give them to citizens for 15, 30, 40, 50 to 500 euros per day.
The journalist says that this abuse must be stopped so that Albanian vacationers are satisfied, but also for tourists who remain disappointed by the high prices.
Excerpt from the statement:
A little while ago I was with an Italian journalist, a fruit juice, which in Rome, the most expensive place in Rome, costs 8 euros, is sold for 15 euros in the south of Albania. I wouldn't want to focus on all the prices in this case because without question prices are a market thing. Someone may want to sell a bottle of water for 1 million, if there are fools who buy it.
I would like to focus on the relationship between these fools as a large part of those who provide services and the service providers themselves, but the very relationship they have with the state.
Everyone can have their own prices in their restaurant, in their hotel, in their business, but when it comes to prices in those areas, where services directly related to the state are offered, such as beach umbrellas, in this case there must be an intervention of the state.
It is not right that public beaches, which are public property, which are given to provide better service to citizens, to a certain business, with 5, maximum 10 euros per square meter per year, are given with 15, 30, 40 , 50 and up to 500 euros per day. It is an absolute waste of public property, it is a removal of the Albanian citizen, who has the right to use this public property like everyone else.
In these cases, only in these cases, the state should set a ceiling price to force all those who have rented the beach for a year, to provide services to the citizens, to make life easier for the citizens .
If these public spaces will turn into a kind of benefit for certain businesses, to earn millions and millions at the expense of these fools, as they call them, or tourists who will never return to Albania, then this is not more a problem of businesses, this is a direct problem of the state. Therefore, the state should set a ceiling as soon as possible, especially for tents on the coast and determine what percentage of the coast should be for private service and how much should be for public service./ CNA
