
The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu has presented the draft law "On the Budget of 2024" for education and sports in the Committee for Education and Public Information.
Manastirliu has announced that the 2024 draft budget for the Ministry of Education and Sports is expected to be 52 billion 223 million ALL, with an additional fund of 5 billion 49 million ALL compared to the initial budget of 2023, or an increase of 10.7%.
"This is the highest budget in history for education, which supports the policy of increasing salaries for teachers, increased investment in educational and digital infrastructure in schools, expands funding for higher education programs, internationalization and scientific research programs and provides student support. The 2024 budget will support sports by investing in sports disciplines in schools, the massification programs of sports and elite sports", said Minister Manastirliu.
The salary increase fund for teachers for 2024 is foreseen in the amount of 4 billion ALL, projecting the MAS budget in the amount of 56 billion 223 million ALL or 9 billion 49 million ALL more than the initial budget of 2023
The minister said that with the 2024 budget there will be a significant increase in salaries for 30,000 teachers, as she said that dedicated support for assistant teachers, psycho-social workers and school security officers will continue.
"The 2024 budget will support the salary increase of over 30,000 teachers in the service of about 300,000 students who attend public education and 1,700 assistant teachers, in support of children with special abilities, for increasing their academic level, while it is foreseen for this number to be increased by 100 new employees. Support will also be guaranteed for 850 psycho-social workers and 220 security officer workers in schools", said Minister Manastirliu.
She also emphasized that with the new budget, school books will be given free of charge to 231,000 students from grades I - 9, as well as to about 18,000 students from the needy social strata attending higher secondary education.
The 2024 budget will provide free transportation during the year for over 38,000 students and 12,000 teachers. The 2024 budget will support about 3,600 students of pre-university education from social strata in need.
Manastirliu said that investments will continue intensively in school facilities and within the 2023-2024 cycle, investments in 30 new schools will be completed.
With the 2024 budget, support is provided for school sports, the expansion of sports teams and the inclusion of over 10,000 students in various sports disciplines./ CNA
