On August 15, 2024, the Orthodox faithful celebrated the Dormition of the Mother of God with great pomp, preceded by two weeks of fasting.

This holiday, which is also called "The Assumption", commemorates the sleeping, awakening and glorification of the Mother of Christ. This important holiday is preceded by Lent and is considered Summer Easter!! Mary, the Mother of God, was "taken up" by God, in the Heavenly Kingdom of Christ, at the fulfillment of her physical and spiritual existence.

The Orthodox Church teaches us that Mary has no personal sins. However, in the Gospel of the feast, in the liturgical services and in the icon of the Dormition, the Church proclaims that Mary really needed to be saved by Christ, just as all people are saved from the torments, sufferings and death of this world; and after she died, she was raised by her Son as the Mother of Life, and now partakes of the eternal life of Heaven, which has been prepared and promised to all who "hear the word of God and keep it ” (Luke 11:27-28).

Today, August 15, 2024, the Dormition of the Mother of God was celebrated throughout the country, in the churches of the Archbishopric, the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral, Tirana, the Metropolitans of Tirana, Durrës, Korça, Berat, Gjirokastra, Fier, Elbasan and in the churches of the Monasteries that bear the name of the Mother Mary.
