Balla, meeting with Schieder/ Discussions on investment in Zvërnec

The Chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, who is in Strasbourg, where the debate in the European Parliament on the Report on Albania will take place, has held a meeting with the rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament, Andreas Schieder.

During the meeting, Balla informed the rapporteur about the debate regarding development plans in Zvërnec, emphasizing that any investment or development project will be reviewed and approved in full compliance with national legislation, environmental protection standards and the European Union environmental acquis.

Among other things, Balla emphasized that the procedures followed so far by the government are transparent and based on rigorous environmental impact assessments, in line with Albania's commitments in the European Union accession process and with international best practices.

"Before the debate in the European Parliament on the Report on Albania and my speech before the Socialists and Democrats Group, I met in Strasbourg with the Rapporteur on Albania, Andreas Schieder. Gratitude for the serious, objective and supportive work in reflecting Albania's achievements and our country's consistent commitment to advancing reforms and the European integration process. Referring to the debate on the development plans in Zvërnec, I informed the rapporteur that the investment or development project has been reviewed, assessed and, when there will be a project, it will be approved in full compliance with national legislation, environmental protection standards and the environmental acquis of the European Union. In this context, we appreciate the transparent procedures of the Government so far of rigorous environmental impact assessments, in accordance with Albania's commitments in the European Union accession process and with international best practices", emphasizes Balla./ CNA
