Albanian Ambassador meets with the Mayor of Innsbruck/ Deepening relations

The Albanian Ambassador to Austria, Fate Velaj, paid a visit to Innsbruck, where he met with the city's mayor, Johannes Anzengruber.

Velaj says that in the meeting with Anzengruber, who is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Innsbruck Airport, he discussed deepening relations between Tyrol and Albania. One of the main proposals was the opening of a charter flight from Innsbruck to Tirana, with the prospect of including Vlora as a destination at a later stage.

The organization of a training program by the Tyrolean School of Tourism for North Albania was also discussed. Another point discussed was the initiative to place a memorial plaque for Tahsin Jonuzi, in the building where he lived in Innsbruck.

Tahsin Jonuzi, who studied at the University of Innsbruck from 1932 to 1937 and was awarded the Gold Medal, then returned to Albania, where he dedicated himself to professional work and the development of the country.

With the German occupation during World War II, he refused to cooperate with the occupying forces and was consequently deported to the KZ Mauthausen concentration camp, from where he never returned. Tahsin Jonuzi is also the father of the painter Nestor Jonuzi.

Full reaction:

Today I had the pleasure of visiting the Mayor of Innsbruck, Mr. Johannes Anzengruber.

With the Chairman, who is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Innsbruck Airport, I discussed several possibilities for deepening relations between Tyrol and Albania:

* the creation of a charter flight from Innsbruck to Tirana and, at a later stage, also to Vlora;

* organizing a training program by the Tyrolean School of Tourism for Northern Albania;

* placing a memorial plaque in the building where Tahsin Jonuzi lived.

He studied at the University of Innsbruck from 1932 to 1937 and was awarded the Gold Medal. After returning to Albania, he devoted himself with dedication to his professional work and the development of the country. With the arrival of the German occupation, he refused to cooperate with the occupiers. For this reason, he was deported to the KZ Mauthausen concentration camp, from where he never returned.

Tahsin Jonuzi is the father of painter Nestor Jonuzi. /CNA
