The 4 new ministers who joined the Rama government

Prime Minister Edi Rama has made changes to several important ministries. 7 ministries will now have new names at their helm.

Some were just swaps while some were replacements with new faces.

The 4 new names that joined the Rama government are:

Eriona Ismaili - Minister of State for Parliamentary Relations.

A series of appointments, dismissals and transfers were made today in several ministries. Among these changes is the appointment of Erjona Ismaili as Minister of State for Parliamentary Relations.

Ismaili succeeds Toni Gogu, who will now be Minister of Justice. Erjona Ismaili, the Socialist Party MP for the Vlora region, is one of the new names to become part of the government cabinet.

She has served as Regional Coordinator in the Swiss project "Stronger Municipalities", providing assistance to local self-government units in four areas: Functioning of municipal councils; Preschool education; Waste management and Performance of local administration.

She also served as Chief of Logistics at the Ministry of Defense for more than 4 years. 

Ermal Nufi-Minister of Defense

Ermal Nufi has held the position of Deputy Secretary General of the Prime Minister's Office. He completed his Master's degree in Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Tirana, in 2010.

After graduation, Mr. Nufi worked as a legal consultant in the private sector and non-profit organizations, both domestic and international. Mr. Nufi also held the position of external lecturer in civil and commercial law at the Institute of Strategic Studies and Training.

Since 2013, he has been licensed as a lawyer by the National Chamber of Advocates, where he has also served as a member of the Steering Council of the Tirana Chamber of Advocates. Since 2021, Mr. Nufi has held the position of legal advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, and has served in various positions within the Albanian public administration.

By decision of the Council of Ministers, he has been appointed Chairman of the Management Board of the Albanian Road Authority, member of the Steering Council of the State Cadastre Agency, and ex-officio chairs the Board of the State Agency for Geospatial Information.

Enea Karakaçi - Minister of Infrastructure and Energy

He previously held the position of Director of OSHEE, and has extensive experience in the energy sector. Karakaçi was a Lawyer at the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE) until 2012. In 2013, he was transferred from ERE to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.

Initially, he was a specialist in the ministry and later was appointed Director General of Energy and Industry Policies and Development at the Ministry of Energy.

In this position, he was responsible for developing policies and strategies for energy in general, renewable energy, oil and gas, minerals and energy efficiency in Albania. He was also a member of the Supervisory Council of OSHEE. 

We recall that today, Rama has changed half of his cabinet, making changes in several ministries.  

Ferit Hoxha - Minister of Foreign Affairs

Ferit Hoxha is the Permanent Representative of Albania to the United Nations in New York City. He previously served in this role from 2009 to 2015, was succeeded by Besiana Kadare, and assumed the role again in October 2021.

Ferit Hoxha joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania in 1991. From 1993 to 1995, he was Deputy Director for Multilateral Cooperation and International Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania. In 1995, he served as Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Albania to the United Nations in New York. From 1996 to 1998, he was Director of that department for Multilateral Cooperation and International Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 1998 to 2001, Hoxha was the head of the Albanian Mission to the European Union in Brussels and concurrently Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg from 1999 to 2001. From 2001 to 2006, Hoxha was Ambassador to France, and from 2003 to 2006, he was Ambassador to Portugal, with residence in Paris. From 2001 to 2007, he was Personal Representative of the Head of State to the Permanent Council of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Between 2006 and 2009, he was Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During this time he also served as National Coordinator for the Alliance of Civilizations and National Coordinator for the Barcelona Process - Union for the Mediterranean, a position he held since 2008. From September 2007 to September 2009, he was also Governor of Albania on the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He returned to the United Nations as permanent representative in October 2021. For the month of June 2022, Hoxha serves as president of the United Nations Security Council, succeeding United States Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who served as President of the UNSC for May 2022./ CNA
