Stroke risk/ Medical robots are being created that 'swim' inside veins

Scientists have developed tiny medical robots capable of swimming through the bloodstream to stop a stroke, marking one of the most promising advances in modern emergency medicine.

These microscopic machines are designed to navigate blood vessels, find dangerous clots, and break them up before they block the flow of oxygen to the brain.

Instead of relying on risky surgery or slow-acting drugs, robots can intervene directly at the site of the clot within minutes.

The technology works through magnetic guidance. Doctors control the robots from outside the body using precisely tuned magnetic fields, allowing them to guide the robots through even the smallest and most complex blood vessels.

Once they reach the clot, the robots either deliver targeted drugs or use micro-vibrations to safely dissolve the blockage without damaging surrounding tissue. Early tests show rapid results, significantly improving blood flow and reducing long-term brain damage.

A future where tiny robots patrol the bloodstream to prevent life-threatening events is becoming more realistic every year./CNA
