Switzerland shocked in extra time, Qatar makes the big surprise

The Swiss national team began its journey to the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Qatar, in a match valid for Group B.

The match started well for the Swiss, who managed to unlock the score in the 17th minute thanks to a penalty shot correctly executed by Breel Embolo.

Granit Xhaka's team had several good chances to double their lead, but were unable to find the net. On the other hand, Julen Lopetegui's Qatar did not give up and, after several chances, found the breakthrough in stoppage time when Boualem Khoukhi headed home a header from an aerial duel.

This result means that all four teams in Group B are in complete balance with 1 point each, while in the next round Switzerland will face Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Qatar will challenge the host Canada.
