Refereeing scandal in Italy, no clubs under investigation

Investigations in Italy into suspicions of match-fixing and influence in the appointment of referees continue, without the involvement of footballers or club directors.

In the spotlight are several challenges such as Bologna-Inter and Inter-Milan in the Italian Cup. So far, no concrete evidence of manipulation has been found, but five people from the refereeing sector are under investigation.

Among them is Gianluca Rocchi, who resigned after the proceedings were launched. Andrea Gervasoni, Luigi Nasca, Rodolfo Di Vuolo and Daniele Paterna are also under investigation, on charges ranging from sports fraud to perjury.

An important element is the reported contacts with about 29 clubs. The investigation began about a year and a half ago and has included wiretaps and interrogations.

New developments are expected in the coming days, while the closure of the case is expected during the summer.
