Cristiano Ronaldo received a surprise offer in the final days of his contract. Al Hilal offered the 37-year-old Portuguese a 2-year contract with 275 million euros per season, but the pharaonic proposal from Saudi Arabia did not materialize in an official agreement.

The president of the Arab club, Fahad ben Nafel, confirmed to YouTube Thamanya the talks with the five-time "Golden Ball" winner, revealing why the agreement was not reached with the Manchester United striker.

"It's true, we tried to approach Cristiano Ronaldo and talked to him. The problem has never been economic, Al Hilal can bring all the stars of the world. The problem is related to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport that prevented us from buying and registering players.

We continued the talks in spite of everything, trying to delay the signings until the sanctions could be lifted," the Arab sheikh declared.
