BA.2.75/ What should we think of this very contagious "super mutant"?

1. It is gaining ground in India and the United States.

2. The virus is BA 2.75, a sub-variant of Omicron.

3. The World Health Organization (WHO) has just put it on a "blacklist".

Reason ? Because it looks much stickier than its predecessors.

This so-called "second-generation" descendant of BA.2, spotted in India in early June, has a mutation profile that is puzzling many experts.

Ne të vërtetë duket se është në gjendje të përhapet më shpejt se paraardhësit e tij dhe të anashkalojë në mënyrë të shkëlqyer imunitetin - duke kundërshtuar efektivitetin e vaksinave dhe antitrupave të bëra gjatë infeksioneve të mëparshme.

Nga ana tjetër, ende nuk dihet nëse BA.2.75 do të shkaktonte efekte më të rënda se variantet e tjera të Omicron, në veçanti BA.5.

Ky variant i “gjeneratës së dytë” është i pranishëm në Indi, ku është i lidhur me valën e re të Covid-19, por edhe në Danimarkë, Gjermani dhe Mbretërinë e Bashkuar, si dhe në Kanada, Australi, Zelandën e Re dhe ne anen perendimore te Shteteve të Bashkuara.

Shkencëtarët janë gjithashtu të shqetësuar për numrin e lartë të mutacioneve që e dallojnë këtë variant të ri nga koronaviruset e vjetra (8 mutacione të reja krahasuar me BA.2).

Some of these mutations are related to the "spike protein", in other words the key that allows Covid-19 to enter our cells. The result is that these changes may allow the virus to "bind more effectively to human cells".

On the other hand, BA 2.75 is just one more variant, resulting from the natural evolution of the virus. BA 2.75 may just be more contagious, but it may not be more problematic in terms of virulence.

So maybe we shouldn't be too scared!

The only point of attention:

"Since it is more contagious, it seems necessary to continue to protect the most vulnerable"!
