Even a 5-year-old can enter the first grade, provided he turns 6 by December 31 of that year.

This is what the Ministry of Education and Sports proposes in the new draft law on education released for public consultation.

For education experts, certain conditions are necessary for this to happen.

"There are studies around the world that the age of maturity of the child to continue school is the age of 6. If we introduce this, the child must attend preschool for one year and have a special reference from the teacher", says Fatmit Vejsiu, education expert.

This proposal, according to the Ministry of Education, was made based on the changes in the current development of children

One of the new changes proposed by the ministry is that no teacher or employee previously convicted of criminal offenses related to minors will be allowed in pre-university education.

Such proposals come after cases of rape and sexual harassment that teachers have committed with minors.

According to the Ministry of Education, this proposal is made to protect children from potentially dangerous individuals. This provision is seen as one more opportunity to prevent the repetition of the criminal offense against minors. The draft law with such changes is in the public consultation stage./eruonews
