More or less all of us, at some point in our lives, have faced acne and the effects it has on our appearance as well as our self-confidence and mental health.

The question you should ask yourself before anything else is this: Why do my skin break out with acne?
Acne is usually the result of overproduction of fatty substances or disruption of the normal functioning of our hormones.
Essentially, hormones increase the production of "oil" and therefore fat and lead to the growth of bacteria which in turn creates acne.
Everyone's skin is completely different and DNA plays a big role in how the body reacts to the hormones that cause acne.

Protective masks weigh down your skin and cause acne
If you have noticed more acne on your chin, jaw and cheeks, it is most likely due to the daily use of a mask. Sweat, bacteria and moisture trapped under your mask stress the skin and promote breakouts. And since daily use of a cream is inevitable, don't forget to wash your face often, especially after long hours of use.
Lack of sleep causes outbursts
Sleep is especially important, as it is a period of rest and recovery during which cortisol levels decrease. Not getting enough sleep means our bodies are constantly exposed to high levels of cortisol, which in turn cause breakouts. Improve your sleep schedule and try to sleep 7-8 hours a day.
Your diet can affect the condition of your skin
Dairy products, gluten and spicy foods are considered to cause breakouts and acne, so even if you suffer from acne, it would be best to avoid them, at least until you find out if they affect your skin condition.
Smoking damages your skin
Smoking is bad for our health, but I think you already knew that. What you probably didn't know is that smoking causes the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin and therefore the appearance of wrinkles and unnecessary pores.
Don't pick at your skin (don't squeeze pimples)
Admittedly, squeezing a pimple may seem "tempting", but it is never a good idea, as it affects the appearance of scars in the affected areas. Also, when you squeeze pimples in an attempt to pop them, you risk pushing the bacteria further and making the condition worse. Instead, make an appointment for a scrub with your dermatologist and learn not to touch your face unnecessarily.
