The daily life of a Korça resident during lockdown

She/He who previously traveled for family visits, for work or for medical check-ups, now faces long hours on damaged alternative roads. The 2.5-hour journey now takes at least 4-5 hours, on tiring roads, consuming even more fuel.

When a citizen of Korçë goes to the supermarket, he notices that some products that came from the port of Durrës or from other areas of the country have started to be missing or have become more expensive. This is due to the additional transportation costs that trucks pay to cover longer distances.

Small family businesses, such as a grocery store, a downtown bar, or an accommodation facility in Korça or Pogradec, suffer from both a lack of clientele and supply.

Tourists who used to come for weekends from Tirana or Kosovo are now hesitant to travel because of the long and tiring road.

Likewise, a business that orders raw materials from Tirana is forced to obtain them less frequently and more expensively, or elsewhere, increasing operating costs.

Students from Korçë studying in Tirana find it impossible to return home every weekend.
Likewise, those treated in Tirana hospitals face dangerous delays and extreme fatigue. Even family gatherings are becoming rarer.

Beyond all of this, uncertainty prevails. The lack of a concrete deadline for when the road will open keeps them in a state of anxiety, planning every move with the fear of being blocked or delayed for the most basic things in life.
