Seven years after the murder of Judge Fildez Hafizi, her ex-husband, Fadil Kasemi, seeks to overturn the sentence of life imprisonment for the crime.

The Supreme Court has announced the date of September 29 for the court hearing against the 58-year-old man, who on August 31, 2017, shot the mother of his two children in the "Xhamllik" area of ??the capital.

The appeal made by him against the decision that imprisoned him for life will be examined in the Counseling Chamber by a panel of judges composed of judges Ilir Panda, Medi Bici, Enton Dhimitri. In the Supreme Court, Kasemi requests the annulment of the decision of the Court of Appeal for Serious Crimes of 2019, claiming that the lower levels should have accepted the request for a summary trial, the type of trial that would save him from life sentence.

He is currently serving this sentence after being accused of "murder due to family circumstances", "arms possession without a permit" and "kidnapping".

During the court proceedings against him at the lower levels, Kasemi took an affirmative stance on the incident, while he claimed that his ex-wife had turned the children against her and that she was not grateful for the investments made against her.

The murder of magistrate Hafizi two years after her divorce from her husband was preceded by previous conflicts between the two, such as the one in 2015, where Kasemi threatened the judge with a gun in a public environment in Golem./CNA
