Zana Spahiu resigns from the leadership of RTK

The acting director general of the public television of Kosovo, Zana Spahiu, has resigned.

The news has been confirmed for Radio Television of Kosovo from Spahiu. The resignation will be effective from July 30, according to the public broadcaster.

Spahi's resignation comes days after RTK and RTK Live aired part of an article by the Bosnian portal Slobodna Bosna (Free Bosnia), in which it is alleged that certain media outlets in the Balkan region have been subjected to the regime of Vucic.

Two Kosovo portals are also mentioned in that article: "Nacionale" and "Periskopi".

In Kosovo, there were reactions about this article, mainly due to the fact that RTK broadcast a part of the text and it was then distributed by some members of the government.

The opposition parties in Kosovo have said that this medium has "turned into a tool of the ordinary interest of the government".

The Government of Kosovo has not commented on this case, until the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, said on Wednesday that she has given information to the Prosecutor's Office about the two mentioned portals of Kosovo, with the reasoning that "it is important to know who is financed by Serbia" .

On July 24, 16 non-governmental organizations and three civil society activists in Kosovo have requested the resignation of the Kosovo Radio and Television Board (RTK).

In their response, the RTK material was considered "disinformation, with the aim of attacking the online media, National and Periscope".

The board of RTK held an extraordinary meeting on July 23 and through an announcement said that it is concerned about the publication of the "controversial article in RTK", which it described as a "clear release", asking for detailed clarifications. from the management.

Boro Kontic, veteran journalist from Bosnia and Herzegovina and director of the Media Center in Sarajevo, explained to Radio Free Europe that "Slobodna Bosna" is a media founded in 1989-1990 by Senad Avdic.

In his opinion, Avdic was one of the best journalists at the time and "Slobodna Bosna" one of the main reliable media that played a "revolutionary role" in the 1990s in exposing the plan to encircle Sarajevo by the Yugoslav army .

"For many, it was a surprise, but it turned out that most of what they published was true," said Konti?.

However, he said that he does not know if he can talk about reliability anymore, since this portal has undergone some changes. In the mid-90s, this media turned into a weekly newspaper and in the last 15 years it has been online only.

"At one point there was a lot of talk that they were supported by the SDA [Democratic Action Party], the largest Bosnian party. I don't know what's going on. I know some of the journalists who work there, they are good, professional journalists. Therefore, it is a media that has a great past, but what it is today, to tell you the truth, I don't know", Konti? said, among other things. / REL
