The fight against wildfires continues / Los Angeles prepares for stronger winds

Los Angeles residents are bracing for further destruction as weather forecasts indicate that the winds that are helping to fan the flames could revive again.

Three fires continue to burn. The largest, the Palisades Fire, has burned more than 23,000 acres and remains 14% contained as of Monday evening.

LA Mayor Karen Bass said "urgent preparations" are being made ahead of approaching hurricane-force winds that are forecast to peak on Tuesday.

At least 24 people have died from the fires and 23 others are missing in the Eaton and Palisades fire areas.

On Monday, authorities also announced that nine people were arrested for robbery and one for arson.

At a press conference, LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman showed video of several robberies and outlined the maximum sentences if the defendants are convicted. /CNA
