Ukraine: 18 civilians killed by Russian attacks overnight

Ukrainian officials said 18 civilians were killed in drone strikes by Russian forces in several Ukrainian cities overnight, hitting the capital Kiev and the Kherson region.

"So far, we have information about 18 dead and 46 injured," Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine's presidential office, said on Telegram. "The Russian attacks in Kherson are continuing ," he added.

Civilian casualties were suffered by drone attacks on a supermarket and a train station in Kherson, while several objects were hit in the southern part of Ukraine.

Ukraine's attorney general's office said earlier on May 3 that 12 people were killed in Kherson, the regional capital, which has been repeatedly shelled by Russian forces across the Dnieper River in recent weeks.

In the statement published by this office, it was said that the deaths and other damages were caused by the "chaotic bombing of civilian infrastructure in the regional center".

The attacks also claimed the lives of three employees of an energy company, who were hit by Russian shelling while working near two villages. According to Ukrainian authorities, they were working to repair power grids after regular attacks by the Russian military.

Another fatality occurred in the morning in the village of Darivsk, where a man died from shelling, the Prosecutor General's Office said. Meanwhile, no details were given for the other victims.

Ukraine's Air Force Command said it had destroyed 21 of the 26 Iranian-made missiles used in the attack. The drones were launched from Russia's Bryansk region and the eastern coast of the Sea of ??Azov, according to the Ukrainian Air Force Command.

The capital's military administration said all drones targeting Kiev were shot down, without specifying their number. This attack was the third wave of Russian airstrikes in Kiev in the last six days./ REL
