Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Thursday rejected Prime Minister Mario Draghi's resignation and asked him to address parliament to get a clear picture of the political situation, according to an official statement from the Italian Presidency.
Mario Draghi confirmed he would resign as Italy's prime minister on Thursday after one of the parties in his ruling coalition failed to take part in a vote of confidence against his government.
The news of the departure came despite the fact that earlier in the day the government survived a vote of confidence in the Senate, during a session that was boycotted by senators from the "5 Star Movement" party. /CNA.al
