After a series of scandals/ Prince Andrew gives up royal titles

Britain's Prince Andrew announced today that he will give up the use of his royal titles, including the title of Duke of York, after discussing the matter with his brother, King Charles.

Through a statement this Friday, the Prince announced his decision.

"In discussion with the King and my immediate and extended family, we have concluded that the ongoing allegations against me distract attention from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.

I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and my country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to step away from public life.

"With His Majesty's consent, we feel it is now appropriate for me to take a step further. Accordingly, I will no longer use my title or the honours bestowed upon me," Prince Andrew said in a statement.

The prince reiterated that he strongly denies the allegations against him.

Foreign media reports that Andrew will not move out of his Windsor residence, Royal Lodge. The prince lives in the Grade II listed mansion with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.

The prince has a private tenancy agreement with The Crown Estate which is not affected by matters relating to his honours and titles. /CNA
