KFOR: The Kosovo Police is responsible for the rule of law in the north

KFOR peacekeeping forces say that the Kosovo Police is responsible for the rule of law in the north.

The spokesman of the General Staff of KFOR, Colonel Andrea Gallieni, during a press conference, spoke about the activities of this mission in general and especially in Kosovo.

Asked about the arrest of two violent protesters in the north after the May 29 protests, Gallieni said that KFOR does not arrest, but the Kosovo Police, which said it is responsible for the rule of law.

"Yes, because the Kosovo Police is responsible for the rule of law and the implementation of the rule of law. During the protest, two people were committing illegal actions or violent actions against the KFOR troops, they were only stopped, and then the KFOR Police were there to take them and, if they arrested them, found them guilty of their behavior. But, KFOR does not arrest, the KFOR Police is responsible for these actions related to the rule of law in Kosovo", he said.

Among other things, he said that if there are armed protesters, they should be arrested and that they are not from the common population.

"It is the primary duty of the Kosovo police, because it is responsible for the rule of law, to undertake all actions to find these groups, and if there are any criminals, to enforce the law. But we know for sure that if someone participates in a protest with improvised means and weapons, he is not from the common population," he said.

We recall that on May 29, 30 members of KFOR were injured in the clash with violent Serbian protesters who protested in front of municipal facilities in the north of the country in order to prevent the new mayors from exercising their duties./ CNA
