Sinking of the ship on the Greek coast/ Five migrants have lost their lives

Five migrants died on Saturday as a result of the sinking of the ship off the coast of Crete, the coast guard of Greece announced.

According to her, around 40 people are missing, while 39 others have been rescued.

The ship has sunk southwest of the island of Crete, the authorities have announced.

They are looking for the missing since the sinking of the ship in the early hours of the morning.

Local media have said that several people were rescued by helicopters and are in intensive care in hospital.

Greece has recorded this year a 25 percent increase in attempts by migrants to enter the country.

Greece is a popular route for migrants and refugees seeking to reach the European Union from countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

In the period 2015-2016, it is believed that about 1 million people have reached the Greek shores, mostly by rafts./REL
