"Send aid to Gaza"/ Pope reacts to Israel-Hamas ceasefire

Pope Francis welcomed and expressed gratitude for the ceasefire reached between Israel and Hamas, with the parties having been at war for 15 months. Pope Francis expressed gratitude to all the negotiators who made it possible to reach the ceasefire, while urging the parties to implement and abide by the agreement reached.

"I express my gratitude to all the mediators. It is a good job to mediate to achieve peace. I thank all the parties involved in this important outcome. I hope that what has been agreed will be immediately respected by the parties and that all the hostages can finally return home and hug their loved ones."

I also hope that humanitarian aid will reach the people of Gaza, who urgently need it, quickly and in large quantities. Both Israelis and Palestinians need clear signs of hope: I believe that the political authorities of both, with the help of the international community, can achieve the right solution for two states.

"Everyone can say: yes to dialogue, yes to reconciliation, yes to peace. And let us pray for this: for dialogue, reconciliation and peace," Pope Francis concluded. /CNA
