The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stated that he would welcome Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, if he would leave his position and go to Belarus.

Referring to the tension between the US and Venezuela, Lukashenko called for a peaceful solution and suggested that a possible war between the US and Venezuela could be a “second Vietnam.” Lukashenko described Maduro as a very tough man.

Lukashenko said in an interview with the American media outlet Newsmax that Maduro's relocation to Belarus would be welcome. However, he stressed that there had been no discussions between the two leaders on the issue.

"Maduro has never been our enemy. If he wants to come to Belarus, the doors are open for him," Lukashenko said.

Tensions between the US and Venezuela are escalating. The US is deploying significant military reinforcements to the southern Caribbean and conducting operations against ships suspected of being involved in drug trafficking.

It was previously claimed that US President Donald Trump had offered Maduro to leave Venezuela to save his life, but that the possibility of a deal could disappear if Maduro did not immediately respond to the offer. The Venezuelan government claims that the US is pursuing regime change to seize the country's oil reserves. /CNA
