From September 1, the salary increase for mayors, vice-mayors, directors and other employees of the local government came into force. The increase, which is covered by the state budget, varies from 30-40% for each position.

But how does the salary level change based on population size?

Specifically, for the Municipality of Tirana, the minimum limit of the mayor's salary is 268 thousand ALL/month and the maximum limit is 318 thousand ALL per month. For the vice-mayors of this municipality, the maximum limit reaches 270,000 ALL per month.

For local self-government units with over 200,000 inhabitants, the salary for the mayor varies from 255,000 ALL to 290,000 ALL per month, while for the vice-president it reaches up to 255,000 ALL per month.

For municipalities with a population of 50,000 to 200,000 inhabitants, the salary for the mayor reaches up to 260,000 ALL per month and the deputy mayor 205,000 ALL per month.

For local self-government units with a population of up to 50,000 inhabitants, the maximum salary is 240,000 lek per month for the mayor and 185,000 lek for the vice-president.

As for the District Council, the salary for the mayor reaches 260,000 ALL per month and for the vice-president 205,000 ALL/month.

The salaries of the directors in the local government have also undergone significant increases, which have been equated to a director in the ministry.

Also, the level of wages per position for civil servants in all municipalities in the country has been aligned, reducing the gap that previously existed due to the number of population that the municipalities have. Specifically, the salaries of specialists in all municipalities start from 40-80 thousand ALL/month. In large municipalities, for the level responsible for the sector they reach up to 105 thousand ALL per month, for the directorate level they reach 141 thousand ALL/month, the general directors receive up to 170 thousand ALL per month and the general secretary 205 thousand ALL per month .
