Yesterday afternoon, the home for the elderly in Fier was engulfed in flames.

After the incident, the elderly have been sheltered in the regional hospital of Fieri, where they are receiving treatment and are staying in the hospital's premises.

Some of them also recounted the moments of panic they experienced when their house caught fire.

"I was scared. There was a lot of smoke, I couldn't get out. I want to get out of here, to fix our house," said an elderly woman.

I lost consciousness in the corridor of the asylum from the smoke, another elderly person declared.

According to the head of emergency admission, Dr. Blendi Dhespollari, 16 residents of the nursing home were initially brought to the hospital, who presented with normal vital parameters, no burn problems, no hypothermia, conscious, but just scared.

It is reported that two of them are in therapy after suffering from chronic diseases.

The 50 elderly are in good health, while they have stated that they can hardly return to their home./ CNA
