Spiropali in Athens/ Request for the abolition of martial law and the treatment

Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali, during a visit to Athens in a meeting with her Greek counterpart, called for the lifting of martial law.

"Being partners in NATO, bound by a Treaty of Friendship and with a common European perspective, Albania supports the early termination of any atavistic legal reference from the Second World War, with consequences in current relations, which does not reflect the reality of our relations as allies and as friends. I would like to especially thank the Minister for his leadership and vision to build a relationship with an eye on the future," said Spiropali.

Spiropali also spoke about the historical, legal and property aspects of Albanian citizens and entities in Greece, which, according to her, were openly addressed within the framework of constructive dialogue and bilateral cooperation.

"I informed my colleague that the Albanian Government has undertaken a complete property reform, which aims to restore legality to the very complex issue of property rights in Albania for citizens regardless of ethnicity, including members of the Greek minority in Albania," Spiropali emphasized.

Minister Spiropali confirmed that "Albania also remains committed to resolving border-related issues (including the delimitation of maritime spaces)."

Spiropali also requested the continuation of technical negotiations on the bilateral agreement on social protection.

"This agreement constitutes an important step forward in protecting social security rights and in guaranteeing equal treatment for workers and self-employed persons, both for Albanians in Greece or Greek citizens working in Albania. A positive and encouraging example is the successful experience with the signing of similar agreements with many partner countries of the European Union, including Italy in 2024, or even other countries," said Spiropali./ CNA
