The microcredit scandal/ Sejko: It's getting bigger, there are problems all
Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko

The governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, responded to the head of the Parliamentary Group of the DP, Gazment Bardhi, who cited the relation of the Prosecutor's Office that the BSH has not monitored the problem with microcredits.

Sejko claimed during his speech in the Assembly that the relationship of the Prosecutor's Office was misunderstood.

"Practically, I wanted to clarify that I do not have the prosecution material that you read. I have a material that closes the case, this is a process that has passed to SPAK. We are available to justice institutions for any kind of information. The prosecution's material has a big misunderstanding about the role of BSH and its function and has turned them into suspicion for criminal charges. The role and function are defined in the law and I guarantee you that the law has been respected. All those who are for media pieces are wrong.

In 2015, the IMF assigned me the task of clearing bank deposits because national security was at risk. Licensing and transfer of loans by banking institutions is legal. The licensing was not illegal. We approved the portfolio of bad loans to enter customers in the credit register so that they do not contaminate the system", he said.

As for the clashes between citizens and bailiffs for bad loans, the governor declared that the bailiffs are not agents of the Bank of Albania.

Sejko said that there are problems with bad loans all over the world, while he claimed that the issue is being hyperbolized.

"Problems with bad loans have also existed in Serbia, the USA and all over the world. It started with us in 2010.

There is a bank panic. It has nothing to do with pyramid schemes and the process is being magnified. If they stole from customers and raped them, they should be punished. 80% are not cashed, not found as customers. They managed to follow only 10%, who, if they did not follow the law by violating the enforcement law, should be held responsible. In general, the money is still with the customers.

This is a pyramid scheme in favor of those who have not paid. We have revoked the licenses of 4 entities under investigation. We have made an examination report with strict recommendations. MCA's license was suspended and then revoked. All clients have gone through litigation. The number of complaints after the removal of licenses increased. Even if the license is removed, the problem remains. To help the citizens, the Civil Code must be changed. We will approve a regulation in September for limiting the granting of loans to Non-Bank institutions", he emphasized.

Meanwhile, regarding the confiscation of assets of bad creditors, Sejko underlined that he was aware, but could not intervene./ CNA
