"NATO's importance does not change"/ Expert: Europe remains

DP Presidency Member Ilda Zhulali spoke in a television appearance about the NATO summit and Europe's relations with the US.

Zhulali said that today Europe has a war on its borders, but the military burden continues to be borne by the US. Regarding the security field, the democrat said that Europe has been and remains dependent on the US to face the challenges in this field.

Focusing on President Trump, Zhulali said that he has more direct communication than his predecessors, but the fundamental pillars of American foreign policy and the importance of NATO do not change.

 

 

“ Today, Europe has a war on its borders, in Ukraine, while the main military and political burden continues to be borne by the United States of America. Europe has been and remains largely dependent on the US to face this challenge. For this reason, when America seeks support from Europe, it expects the same responsibility and political loyalty. Essentially, it is about clarifying the rules of the alliance and the fact that allies should be there for each other when they need it. Debates on the future of NATO have existed for a long time. Trump has a much more direct way of communicating than other American presidents and, in the era of real-time information, his every statement becomes part of the public debate.
