Amendments to the Law on Audiovisual Media/ OSCE: Important step towards

The OSCE Presence in Albania has welcomed the adoption of amendments to the Law on Audiovisual Media, emphasizing the introduction of Article 33/1, which aims to increase the transparency of media ownership.

According to the OSCE, these changes represent an important step towards improving transparency in media ownership and strengthening accountability in the audiovisual sector in the country.

Reaction from the OSCE:

The OSCE Presence in Albania welcomes the adoption of amendments to the Law on Audiovisual Media, in particular the introduction of Article 33/1 on transparency of media ownership.

These changes constitute an important step towards improving the transparency of media ownership and strengthening accountability in the audiovisual sector.

We note with pleasure that these changes reflect key recommendations of the OSCE Presence, developed in continuous and excellent cooperation with the Audiovisual Media Authority.

The creation of a national database for media ownership, increased transparency requirements, and compliance with the law on beneficial owners bring Albanian legislation closer to European standards.

The Presence encourages continued efforts to ensure transparency and effective implementation and remains ready to support these initiatives./CNA
