Historic, Albania will host the 36th NATO Summit in 2027

The historic NATO Summit in 2027 will be held in Albania, in our capital, Tirana.

The NATO Summit is one of the largest global events, it is a high-level meeting that is considered a periodic opportunity for the heads of state and heads of government of NATO member countries to assess and provide strategic direction for the Alliance's activities.

NATO summits are not regular meetings like the more frequent NATO ministerial meetings, but rather are important moments in the alliance's decision-making process at the highest level.

Summits are often used to introduce new policies, invite new members to the alliance, launch major new initiatives, and build partnerships with countries outside NATO.

In 2027, the leaders of 32 NATO member states will gather in Tirana.

This summit will bring to Tirana politicians from the 32 member states of the Alliance, starting with US President Donald Trump, as well as other world leaders.

This summit is not simply an advertisement for Albania, which the whole world will recognize, but also one more guarantee for Albania's stability and security.

NATO has held 34 summits since its creation, and is expected to hold the summit in Turkey in 2026 and in Albania in 2027.

At the last NATO summit in The Hague, which was held for consecutive days, the main decision was for the 32 allies to commit to spending 5 percent of their Gross Domestic Product on defense by 2035.

Of this, 3.5 percent should go to core military spending and 1.5 percent to other areas such as critical infrastructure, civil preparedness, and aid to Ukraine.

Another key pillar of NATO is Article 5, which states that an attack on one of the 32 allies is considered an attack on all, and was reiterated during this NATO Summit meeting.

Albania in NATO

Albania has been a member of NATO and a candidate country for membership in the European Union since 2009. Albania has proven to be an important factor in maintaining regional stability, supporting the resolution of political disputes in the Balkans.
