The international competition for the construction of the new National Theater opens.

The mayor, Erion Veliaj, announced the news during the meeting of the Municipal Council of Tirana.

Veliaj said that the competition for the construction of the Theater was postponed due to the crisis from the Russia-Ukraine war, which brought about the increase in the price of iron, steel and concrete.

"The first decision has to do with the reflection of a change in the budget that has to do with the construction of the National Theatre. No one had expected that the war in Ukraine would bring a total upheaval in the markets, especially in the prices of iron, steel and concrete. Mostly these have the basic elements. Therefore, it was impossible for us to open an international competition with pre-war prices.

So we have asked the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance to index the price, that is, to index with the prices that are today, because otherwise we risk that this competition will fail us and we will continue with the contemplation of the battles for the theater, where you you know very well that politics and people who have never been to the theater are included", said the mayor of Tirana./ BA - CNA.al
