Seismologist Damiano Koxhaj told Euronews Albania that, taking the trigger from the recent earthquakes in Iceland, there is no place for panic in Albania as our country has normal seismic activity.
He has admitted that Albania, although it is far from the contact of the tectonic plates that collide in the southwest of Greece, can be impacted by these movements.
"We are close to a plate contact which is near Crete, in the southwestern part of Greece, we are not close to the big contact of tectonic plates. This contact, even though it is far from us, has its own impact on the geology or tectonics of the small faults that we have in Albania. To say what the future will be is difficult to say, but the seismic activity since September 26 has been a normal activity in the sense that nothing increased has been observed that could create some kind of alarm," he said. Koxhaj.
Currently, numerous earthquakes have been recorded in Iceland, where 800 tremors have been recorded in one night, while massive earth cracks have been reported.
For days, Iceland has been experiencing seismic tremors while the red alert has been raised for the activation of volcanoes./ CNA
