Begaj decrees the appointment of Ermal Dredha as Ambassador of Albania to

President Begaj decreed today the appointment of Mr. Ermal Dredha to the position of Ambassador of Albania to the Swiss Confederation and Ambassador of Albania to the Principality of Liechtenstein.

This appointment of Dredha comes after his resignation from the Municipality of Vlora. Ermal Dredha is a former diplomat and politician, who served until now as Mayor of Vlora. He was elected to the head of the municipality of Vlora in 2023. For two years he has led one of the largest municipalities in Albania. Ermal Dredha is a name with considerable weight as he has held important positions in important Ministries.

Dredha previously held various positions in the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, including that of Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and Director of State Protocol of Albania.

Dredha began his career in 1999 as a translator for Italian journalists during the Kosovo crisis. In 2000, he became assistant and general director of the digital archive at the Italian Cooperation in Tirana, overseeing water supply infrastructure projects in Albania.

In 2002, he joined the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs as Personal Assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He later served as Head of the IT Sector and the Department of State Protocol. From 2010 to 2013, he was Director of State Protocol.

Between November 2013 and November 2016, Dredha was the Consul General of Albania in Bari, Italy. From May 2016 to March 2023, he served as the Ambassador of Albania to the United Arab Emirates.

In April 2023, Dredha was selected by the Socialist Party of Albania as their candidate for the mayoral election of Vlora. He won the election in May 2023, securing over 70% of the vote. He officially took office in July 2023, succeeding Dritan Leli./ CNA
