400 million Twitter accounts are hacked/ Elon Musk is silent about the event

Twitter will enter a surveillance process after a hacker claims to have stolen 400 million user accounts of the app. 

The hacker, named as "Ryushi", is demanding $200,000 (£166,000) in exchange for handing over the stolen data, some of which is reported to belong to celebrities.

Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC) says it will "review Twitter's compliance with data protection law in relation to the security issue".

Twitter has not yet given a comment regarding this event. 

The data reportedly includes the phone numbers and e-mails of public figures such as politicians. A very small amount of the alleged hacked data has been released, while most of the information is still kept secret.

According to the BBC, the data of American congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was published by the hacker. 

It is reported that the data of Piers Morgan, who recently had his Twitter account hacked, has also been published.

Twitter has not yet responded to press inquiries about the allegations. 

Elon Musk did not respond to a request made publicly on Twitter by leading cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs for an answer on the situation. / CNA.al
