Studimi: Pëlhurat sintetike shkaktojnë infertilitet te burrat dhe gratë përmes ekspozimit kimik

Poliesteri është në thelb plastikë që vishet direkt në lëkurë dhe shkencëtarët po shqyrtojnë gjithnjë e më shumë se si ky kontakt i vazhdueshëm mund të ndikojë në biologjinë njerëzore.

Pëlhurat sintetike shpesh përmbajnë aditivë si ftalate, të cilët tashmë dihet se ndërhyjnë në sinjalizimin hormonal.

Hulumtimet sugjerojnë se efektet e fertilitetit mund të vijnë nga një kombinim i ekspozimit kimik dhe faktorëve fizikë. Ndërsa poliesteri zbërthehet, ai mund të lëshojë mikroplastika që vijnë në kontakt të ngushtë me lëkurën dhe mund të hyjnë në trup përmes ekspozimit të zgjatur.

Një faktor tjetër nën hetim është elektriciteti statik. Pëlhurat e poliesterit gjenerojnë fusha elektrostatike të vazhdueshme dhe studimet e hershme tregojnë se këto fusha mund të ndikojnë në mënyrë delikate në proceset biologjike me kalimin e kohës.

Studimet mbi kafshët, duke përfshirë eksperimentet që përfshijnë qen, zbuluan pjellori të reduktuar gjatë ekspozimit të zgjatur ndaj poliesterit, me pjellori që rikthehet pasi rrobat hiqen.
