Cervical cancer/ Age range for women benefiting from screening program expanded

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, through the Institute of Public Health, joins this year's European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week campaign, to remind people that prevention saves lives.

This is an important moment to raise awareness about cervical cancer and the importance of early action for women's health.

Building on the experience of the National Cervical Cancer Screening Program, which is implemented by the IHP, as well as international best practices, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has decided in 2026 to expand the age range for women benefiting from the program, now including the 35–55 age group.

This expansion aims to promote awareness and inclusion of women in the screening program, increase opportunities for early diagnosis of this disease, and reduce its long-term risk.

Cervical cancer is one of the cancers that can be almost completely prevented, through vaccination against HPV and regular screening.
