The former speaker of the Assembly, Jozefina Topalli, on her birthday wrote a piece, reflecting on all the achievements, challenges, people who believed and supported her.

She says she was lucky to have that wonderful family with two children who didn't break her heart and a husband who supported her.

As for her career, she says that her path was quite unique.

Jozefina Topalli says that she only lived what she believed, "but at a not small cost for my family and especially for my children who did not have their mother at home like every 1-year-old child, as Genari was when I entered Parliament, in a very difficult time for DP".

"It is said that every birthday is a new beginning. I feel that way. I love life and I love the challenge again. I thank all those who supported me and loved me without interest!", she writes on social networks.

On this very special day for me, I feel freer than I did 30 years ago, more confident and at the same time more humble, ...but also clothed with an infinite experience.

My life has had very strong ups and downs.

Although she often did not depend on me, in that part that was influenced by me, in my path, choices and solutions, I did everything and every time in my own way..

Not a few times they didn't even understand me, many times they misunderstood me, but that didn't stop me from believing in what I considered right.

I have been lucky, which not everyone has. I have two children, who have never hurt my heart;

I have a husband, who has always supported me even when he thought differently from me, actually becoming the pillar of balance and joy in our home, with his kindness, tolerance and humor.

But I am not only a happy mother of two beloved children, nor even a privileged wife, today our family has expanded with two nephews, who give me endless love.

On this day, I remember my mother and father, who raised us through sacrifices and poverty with great love. They never took us through their suffering, anxieties and fears for our future. Despite the storms of their lives, they made my childhood, brother and sister, beautiful and friendless; they taught us education, work, dignity and love for family and people.

In other areas of life I have always been myself.

I could not be what I am not.

I started working to help the family when I was 12 years old.

I had the courage to tear down all my walls at first.

I laughed and cried, I was wrong, I lost, I worked and won.

But, I have done everything and every time in my own way..taking care to always preserve dignity!

My path has been quite unique!

From a high school student who won mathematics olympiads to an agricultural worker (semi-interned), to the first female Speaker of the Parliament.

Since I was little, I decided not to walk in anyone's shadow.

I was told that I am tough, when I was working for what I thought was right!; when I fought to knock down the stones of the wall of crime and injustice in the Assembly!

I've never turned my back on a man, but I've never wanted to run away from myself either.

They told me that I am strong, when in fact I was more shy.

I lived only what I believed, but at a not small cost for my family and especially for my children who did not have their mother at home like every 1-year-old child as Genari was when I entered Parliament, at a time very difficult for PD.

This is a hostage that will follow me as long as I have breath.

It is said that every birthday is a new beginning. I feel that way.

I love life and I love the challenge again.
