The study, over 50% of Americans think that the media misinforms

According to a recent poll, half of Americans think that national media organizations aim to misinform or persuade the public to embrace a particular point of view through their reporting.

The survey was published on Wednesday by the organization 'Gallup' and the foundation 'Knight'. It is evidence of a surprisingly low level of trust in the media, indicating that many Americans believe that misinformation is done on purpose.

Asked if they agreed with the position that national media organizations do not intend to misinform, 50% of respondents said they disagreed. Only 25% agreed with this position.

Overall, 55% of respondents said there was a large political approach to coverage of the events, compared to 45% in 2017.

The survey found that 32% of Americans pay a lot of attention to local news, down from 56% at the start of 2020, at the start of a presidential election year and the outbreak of COVID-19.

The results are based on the survey of 5,593 Americans age 18 and older, conducted between May 31 and July 21, 2022./VOA
