The head of the EP wants Ukraine to start membership talks this year

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, during her visit to Ukraine on March 4, called for this country to be allowed to start negotiations for membership in the European bloc this year.

"I hope that negotiations for admission can start this year," Metsola said during a visit to Lviv, a city in western Ukraine.

"Ukraine's future is in the European Union", she emphasized.

In June last year, Brussels granted Kiev candidate status, four months after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. But the EU membership process may take several years.
