The Kosovo Police announced the opening of the competition for the admission of new police officers in the North Mitrovica Regional Directorate.

In the northern part of the state - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - hundreds of Serbian police officers resigned in November of last year, as a sign of dissatisfaction with a decision of the Government of Kosovo regarding car license plates.

Kosovo and Serbia in the meantime reached an agreement on license plates, with the mediation of the European Union.

Në njoftimin e Policisë thuhet se kërkohen policë nga të gjitha minoritetet që jetojnë në Kosovë (serb, boshnjak, malazez, turk, goran, rom, ashkali, egjiptas, kroat dhe maqedonas). Konkursi do të jetë i hapur deri më 26 janar.

Vetë kryeministri i Kosovës, Albin Kurti, më 28 dhjetor 2022, u bëri thirrje serbëve që të aplikojnë për vende pune në institucionet e Kosovës.

“Zbrazëtinë që ekziston brenda institucioneve tona të përbashkëta pas dorëheqjes kolektive dhe kryesisht të detyruar, të disa qindra serbëve, ne nuk duam ta mbushim me shqiptarë”, deklaroi Kurti.

Lista Serbe - the main Serbian party in Kosovo, which has the support of Belgrade - had announced that the Serbs would withdraw from Kosovo's institutions in early November last year. At the same time, judges, prosecutors and other personnel from the ranks of the Serbian community also resigned. Likewise, officials of the Serbian List from local and central institutions, including the Government and the Assembly of Kosovo, also resigned.

Since the resignation of the Serbian police officers in the four municipalities in the north – North Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zveçan and Zubin Potok – the police have announced that they have sent law enforcement officers there from other regions.

The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) declared on December 31 that due to the resignations in the north, there is a security vacuum, demanding that the Serbs return to Kosovo's institutions./ REL
