Former President Trump's legal team hands over secret documents and a laptop

US media reported on Friday that former President Donald Trump's lawyers have handed over to federal investigators in recent months other classified documents, as well as a laptop belonging to an aide to Mr Trump.

According to a person familiar with the matter, the lawyers also provided a blank file containing classified information.

A Justice Department special prosecutor is investigating Mr Trump's possession of hundreds of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

During a raid in August, FBI agents found about 100 classified documents, among them documents classified as top secret. A federal grand jury has been hearing evidence related to the case for months.

News of the new documents found in Mr. Trump's residence was first reported by ABC News.

The person familiar with the matter said a small number of classified documents were found during a search overseen by Mr. Trump's legal team several weeks ago at Mar-a-Lago. They were immediately turned over to the Department of Justice. The documents were found in a box containing thousands of pages of other documents, the same person said./VOA
