Hopes of finding survivors of earthquakes in Turkey and Syria fade

The earthquake that hit the region near the border of Turkey and Syria has already claimed the lives of over 21,000 people. This region is home to 13.5 million people.

Search and rescue teams made last-ditch efforts Thursday night to find survivors under the rubble of the collapsed buildings.

Aerial footage showed the devastation left behind, with whole neighborhoods flattened.

The new toll, which is sure to rise, includes more than 17,600 people dead in Turkey and more than 3,300 in already civil war-torn Syria. Also, tens of thousands of people were injured.
