Artan Hoxha is surprised: I could be the only one arrested for January 21st

Investigative journalist Artan Hoxha has made a strong statement, raising serious concerns about the legal protection of journalists and the preservation of information sources.

Hoxha stated that if a prosecutor insists on obtaining the source, the current law does not guarantee real protection for journalists, but instead forces them to reveal the source in a secret session.

He emphasized that in such a situation, the journalist could face criminal penalties, becoming a victim of the system, while those truly responsible remain untouched.

Referring to the events of January 21, Hoxha warned that the case could be closed without justice, ironically saying that after 16 years, the only one arrested could be himself.

His statement comes at a time of intense public debate over legal changes affecting the media and freedom of expression in Albania.

"If the Prosecutor persistently requests the source, it is the law that determines this."

I am saying in this place that if a prosecutor takes a journalist's source, then the journalist is forced to provide the source in a secret session, it does not protect us.

It forces us to provide the source. If I don't provide the source, I have consequences, that maybe I have to open the way and save others behind.

"And in this situation, which is no longer hypothetical, January 21 could end after 16 years and the only one arrested would be me," Hoxha said./ CNA
