Restrictions on beauty filters / "TikTok" comes with new changes

Teenagers are facing sweeping new restrictions on the use of beauty filters on TikTok.

In the coming weeks, young people under 18 will not be able to use filters to change eye color, lip size or skin color.

Restrictions will apply to filters such as Bold Glamour, which change features in a way that makeup cannot. While comic filters that add rabbit or dog ears will not be affected.

There have been widespread concerns that beauty filters, some provided by TikTok and others created by users, have increased the pressure on teenagers, especially girls.

Some young people have described how after using the filters they considered their real face ugly. TikTok also announced that it was strengthening its systems to block users under the age of 13 from the platform, which could mean that thousands of children will leave the platform.
